VSEA Objective

The will to learn. The means to an education.

VSEA Project desires to see an end to the poverty cycle in Deepsea. We feel the best way to make this dream a reality is to invest in the education of the next generation of Deepsea. A typical education in Deepsea lasts through 8th grade, at which point tuition fees drastically rise. Most teenagers in the slum are unable to continue past 8th grade, therefore dropping out before reaching high school. As a result these students have no chance at securing a job and the cycle of poverty continues on to another generation.

Our hope is to find sponsors for each of our scholarship students. However, we do not ask for purely a financial investment, instead we want sponsors to partner with VSEA Project and build lasting relationships with our students.

Every child deserves an education. but in Deep Sea Slum, where many families live on one or two dollars a day, school is an impossible luxury. Students, often female, that cannot afford fees are forced to leave school and work, or in some cases marry at a young age. The Scholarship Program ensures that a family’s material circumstances do not limit a student’s ability to excel in school. None of the scholarships are full awards. Families share responsibility for fees as a demonstrated commitment to students’ academic success.

The Scholarship Program offers more than just school fees. It fully invests in student development, providing mentorships, counseling, tutoring, career panels, study skills and community service. In 2009, its first year and then to date, the Scholarship Program awarded 160 scholarships to primary, secondary and post-secondary students from Deepsea Slum. Many recipients of scholarships balance family commitments and schoolwork alongside VSEA trainings and activities. We are working with the followings to make sure our children get good education and a chance to nurture their talents:

Victoria Soccer Academy (VSA) is a Nonprofit, independent sports organization, Operating in Nairobi at Highridge slum (Deep sea) and Nyanza at Alwor area. VSA is registered by the ministry of sports, culture and social services. We are dedicated to provide an enabling environment where youngsters can nurture their football skills in addition to their normal learning curriculum. Our vision is to make a genuine contribution to sports, and stimulate the growth of the often untapped potential that sits in the Kenya children.
We run our regular activities on and off the field to build a closer understanding between the instructor and the child. We support the children so that they learn more than just sporting skills, they have an instructor who can help them keep on a positive track. We encourage young boys and girls through soccer to continue with the education by helping them with education requirements like fees, meals and other educative material.
VSA was formed in 2006 with the idea of involving most of the children and youngsters of the Deep sea slum in Nairobi , boys and girls, keeping them active through soccer and helping them choose a safer and better future away from the daily risks they ran in the life they were living. Currently we are working with more than 80 children, among them are 16 girls who benefit from our sporting programme and education. There are many more children who need our support but due to a lack of  facilities and sponsorship we cannot work with large numbers until we have enough sponsors and facilities for them.
Through sports we are able to keep children off the street and in school!

VISION

“To help the disadvantaged talented children in sports to be good future citizens that can benefit the country”. Honestly, we witnessed a big number of disadvantaged kids [street kids, orphans and kids from poor families].After that we discovered that no one could come up and help these kids yet they had different talents which can gather them together and enjoy life. so we decided to come up with a vision of forming Victoria Soccer Academy [VSA] to build and develop their talents through sports activities.

MISSION

To change these kids from a distressed [sad] life to a joyful life through training them different sports activities.
